Rorimer Welcomes New Principal Joyce Garcia and AP Maria T. Jimenez

 Joyce Garcia, Principal of Rorimer Elementary

Joyce Garcia is excited to be the new Principal of Rorimer Elementary School. Mrs. Garcia has been an educational leader in the Rowland Unified School District since 1999, when she began as a teacher at La Seda Elementary and then served as a Cotsen Foundation Mentor Teacher and English Language Development Coach due to her strength in instructional models and ability to collaborate with her peers. She served as a program specialist and literacy coach at Rorimer Elementary and since 2013, has been the Assistant Principal and Coordinator of Student Achievement at Rorimer. She was twice awarded Teacher of the Year and recipient of the Ada Mae Warner Award at both La Seda and Rorimer Elementary Schools. Mrs. Garcia received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies and Master of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership from Cal Poly Pomona.

          I am thrilled and grateful for this opportunity to carry forward the accomplishments of the students, teachers, staff and dedicated parent community at Rorimer.  My collective experiences over the past 15 years in our Rowland Unified District have provided me a meaningful foundation for this principalship, and I am deeply committed to continue building on our positive achievements and uncovering the possibilities of a successful future,” said Garcia.

Maria T. Jimenez started her 17 years of professional educational experience in the Long Beach Unified School District where she served as a teacher for eight years providing instruction in a variety of grades. In 2007, she joined the Rowland Unified School District working with a variety of communities at Hurley Elementary, Oswalt and Ybarra Academies. She was able to contribute to the dual language immersion program and provided Spanish instruction through the International Baccalaureate program.  She has served on several leadership committees such as the School Site Council, Student Study Team, Teacher Council, and served as the Grade Level Lead.  Currently, is a member of the Local Control Accountability Council where she participated in decision-making, providing feedback, and making recommendations that support the District goals. She received her B.A. in Liberal Studies from California State University, Long Beach and an Administrative Credential and Masters in Educational Leadership from Cal Poly Pomona.  

          “I am excited to serve as an Assistant Principal at Rorimer Elementary! I look forward to working with all students, parents, staff, and community to continue providing a high quality and rigorous education for all students so that students are prepared for college and career!”
