PLEASE READ AND DO WARM UP ON SCRATCH PAPER:
SKILL: We will see how putting zeros in a decimal will change or not change the value of the number
Warm Ups:
WARM-UP #1
Write the number " 63"
Then add zeros to create up with these numbers:
630, 6,300, 063, 603
As you can see all the numbers change in value EXCEPT 63 = 063
*When you put a zero in front of a whole number, it DOES NOT change the value.
WARM-UP #2
Write the number " 0.4 "
Now write 0.04, 0.400. 0.40000
* You can put zeros to the right of a number and it DOES NOT change the value. 0.4= 0.400, 0.4=0.40000
but if you put a zero to the right of the decimal point, the 4 gets moved to the hundredths place. 0.4 0.04

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING ON THIS PAGE BEFORE YOU DO THE WORK, I AM GIVING EXAMPLES BELOW SO YOU CAN DO IT CORRECTLY.
Study the Place Value Chart on Page 281. Notice how the ONES, TENS, and HUNDREDS are to the left of the DECIMALS
( TENTHS and HUNDREDTHS)
The Decimal point is between the ONES and TENTHS.
Remember to think of Decimals as MONEY.
1.0 = 1.00 ( Think $1.00, a WHOLE DOLLAR! )
.1= .10 ( DIME) or 1/10 One TENTH of a WHOLE Dollar ( $ 1.00)
.01= ( PENNY) or 1/100 One Hundredth of a WHOLE Dollar
.001= 1/1000 One Thousandth of a WHOLE Dollar
.01= ( PENNY) or 1/100 One Hundredth of a WHOLE Dollar

3 3/10 ( Say " Three and three tenths" )
Write 3 3/10 as a decimal:
The "3" Wholes does NOT CHANGE, it just stays in the ONES place.
The " And " is the decimal point
3/10 = .3 ( Draw out the decimal place value lines to help)
The " And " is the decimal point
3/10 = .3 ( Draw out the decimal place value lines to help)
So 3 3/10 = 3.3 or 3.30 ( Its like Three Dollars and Ten cents, $3.30 )
EXAMPLES FOR #15-20 on PAGE 282
EXPANDED FORM:
Write the decimal
STACK below by writing EACH each place value under each number
Example: Write 17.48 as EXPANDED FORM:

WARM UP REVIEW: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
.3 is the same as .30 ( Both are 30 cents)
.30 is greater than .03 ( 30 cents is greater than 3 cents)
30/100 = 3/10 ( Both are 30 cents)
24/100= 24 hundredths = .24
SAY "24 hundredths" write "24" over the hundredths place value. You can not have 2 digits in the same place value, so the "4" stays in the hundreths, the 2 goes to the tenths. So 24/100= .24
When Comparing 2 Decimals, STACK the 2 decimals and LINE UP the points. Fill in the blank spaces if there are with a ZERO. Then you can compare. For Example, which is greater .030 or .3?
STACK:
.030
.3
.3
.3= .300
So .300 looks greater than .030
So .3 > .030
So .3 > .030

Problem Solving with Fractions / Multiplying Whole Number with a Fraction:
Advice for page 241-242:
Remember when you are multiplying a whole number and a fraction, make sure you first put a "1" under the whole number. Then you can just multiply the numerators across and then the denominator.
Example:
2 x 2/3 =
Put a "1' under the 2 so it is 2/1....Remember 2/1=2 so thats why it works
Then 2/1 x 2/3 = 4/3
4/3 = 1 1/3

SOCIAL STUDIES REFLECTIONS TEXTBOOK : Monday 4/6 "The Mission System" Pages 140-141
Hi Class, Welcome back from Spring Break!
So far, we have been reading about what happened when the Spanish arrived in Alta California. The Spanish "took over" by building Missions to control the Native Californian Indians.
Quick Summary:
The missions brought many changes to the lives of the indians in California. On the missions, the indians learned new skills such as farming, but lost the freedom to practice their own customs. Many Indians died of diseases brought by Europeans.
READ " Points of View, The Mission System" Pages 140-141
ANSWER THESE 3 QUESTIONS: PEASE A.C.E YOUR ANSWERS:
1) 2 SPANISH PRIESTS' POINT OF VIEW:
WHAT DID FATHER LASUEN AND FATHER FATHER FONT SAY ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA INDIANS?
WHAT DID FATHER LASUEN AND FATHER FATHER FONT SAY ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA INDIANS?
HOW ARE THE POINTS OF VIEW OF FATHER LASUEN AND FATHER FONT ALIKE?
2) 2 CALIFORNIAN INDIANS' POINT OF VIEW:WHAT DID JULIO CESAR AND LORENZO ASISARA SAY ABOUT THE MISSIONS?
HOW ARE THEY ALIKE?
HOW ARE THEY ALIKE?
3) WHY DID SPANISH PRIESTS HAVE DIFFERENT POINTS OF VIEW THAN THE 2 INDIANS? EXPLAIN

Example:
Example:
7 3/5 = 6 8/5
_ 2 4/5 = 2 4/5
________________
4 4/5
_ 2 4/5 = 2 4/5
________________
4 4/5
Look at the numerator, you can not subtract ( 3 minus 4 )
So you have to take 1 whole ( 5/5) from the 7 and add to 3/5
Now you have 6 8/5 because 8/5 is ( 5/5 + 3/5)
Subtract 2 4/5

STANDARDS PLUS Math : MONDAY 3/23: Pages 216-217
Do page 216 and 217 ( We did these kind of problems before)
To show your work: Please rewrite each problem vertically:
Example:
Example:
2 4/5
+ 7 3/5
___________
9 7/5 ( 7/5 is an Improper fraction)
+ 7 3/5
___________
9 7/5 ( 7/5 is an Improper fraction)
Now take 1 whole out by dividing 7/5
7/5 = 1 2/5
Then add 1 2/5 to 9 = 10 2/5
7/5 = 1 2/5
Then add 1 2/5 to 9 = 10 2/5
Remember when the numerator ( top number) is greater than the denominator ( bottom number) , that means you have more than a whole. So you need to take the whole out...You can also DIVIDE to take the whole out.
